Understanding dental care

The dental health program provides emergency, general and denture care to eligble Victorians through community dental clinics, rural hospitals and the Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne. People are treated in the order in which they are placed on either the general care list or denture care list at each clinic.  People requiring emergency care or urgent dental needs are prioritised.

A patient visit is one element of a course of care, which is a period of time when a patient receives a clincal assessment and/or treatment.  A patient may have more than one visit during the course of their care.
