About this report

This report shows the proportion of separations from adult acute inpatient units that are followed by a readmission to any adult acute inpatient unit within 28 days.
Health Service and Statewide target is 14 per cent.

Notes:

  • Dandenong - Adult AMHS includes data for Casey Hospital. 
  • Statewide totals include Orygen.

Understanding admission & readmission

A voluntary or involuntary hospital admission for the treatment and management of a person who has a severe mental illness. Readmission follows a clinical decision based upon specified criteria that a patient requires care or treatment due to their mental health and they have received care or treatment within the last 28 days.

Target

As part of Statewide and/or National agreements, targets have been set for some key performance indicators. These annual targets are shown to enable comparative achievements to be illustrated.
