About this report

Number of patients removed without surgery from the elective surgery list. A patient may be removed from  the elective surgery waiting list (without having had their surgery) if they,

  • are deceased
  • are not contactable
  • decline surgery, or surgery is no longer required
  • fail to attend for admission without prior notice
  • defer treatment on two occasions, or
  • are unavailable for treatment for a period exceeding the number of not ready for surgery days for personal reasons according to their urgency category.

30 days for Category 1 patients, 

90 days for Category 2 patients and 

180 days for Category 3 patients.

Understanding elective surgery

Elective surgery is surgery that, in the opinion of the treating clinician, is necessary and admission for which can be delayed for at least twenty-four hours.
